3.(4-7) What Tommy Wants

Slim Novel 3 - http://adventuresofkimi.blogspot.com - See Homepage

4. The Pink House
Next morning before leaving for office, Tommy lingers with Kimi over lover’s kiss. Kimi stands just inside the small vestibule of the new Pink House, watching him stride to his red Mercedes and drive off, his car emitting a loud screech. Her feet in furry brown clinging padded slippers, she feels very good. Taking a long look towards the brilliant blue sky she thinks: Well, Kimi kid, size up this shack. Already she uses Tommy’s slang.
She goes outside for an inspection and from front sees a rickety house of wood, painted pink. Going back into living room she thinks: Needs wallpaper and art. Olga can help choose the best. Kimi hopes to study European art. She thinks more: And needs big oval table for living room. Tommy had mentioned “Seminar,” which requires such a table for everyone to sit and discuss. And further: The room needs book cases with books – many books. Tommy is such a wide reader and Kimi strongly desires to be one too.  A thought recurs: So many new things: New day, new life, new ----- Kimi?

5. Tommy’s Breakfast
Following day, Kimi makes breakfast, remembering the saying that keeping a man is more than sex. Of course, satisfying that is important especially in catching him. But, once captured, feeding is key to his keeping. So she asks Tommy his breakfast favorites.
“Baby, I bring home the bacon metaphorically and love it concretely.”
   Her puzzlement shows.
He extends left palm at her in a gesture. “First I want American bacon not Canadian. American has stripes of white running lengthwise; the Canadian looks like ham – no white stripes – and it’s tasteless. Buy bacon in slabs and cut just before frying. Not too thick ‘cause then it won’t get crispy like I like. About ye big (Space between his indicated thumb and forefinger-tips) and serve only two strips otherwise I’ll overdose on the fat. And when you fry bacon, start with high flame then lower it by half soon as it starts sizzling. And keep turning the frying bacon strips over and over so each side fries equally. And press down with a skillet to flatten little curvatures on the surface so you get uniform frying.”
“It should be nicely crisp in three minutes but pay attention because too blackly burned is a no go on the Gobo." (He winks, at his nonsense) "‘Crisp’ means it crumbles in mouth. As soon as the strips are crisp, take ‘em outa the fry pan and put ‘em on a brown-bag paper to absorb the hot fat. Press the strips on the paper gently, and turn ‘em over. Meanwhile, back in the pan, make my egg sunny-side up. That’s ‘egg’. One small or medium size. An’a l’lle hot fat to grease the pan. Crack the shell and drop its contents onto the greased heated pan. Fry it 'til the clear mucous becomes egg white and the yolk gels solid yellow. Then, with skillet, be sure to pick up the sunny-side egg in one intact piece and drop it prettily on the plate between the bacons. Yeah! I said ‘prettily!’ By now my toast should be popping out browned. Don’t butter it or put salt on the egg. I want my food pure.”
“My coffee should be on table as you set down my bacon and egg. I like my coffee tasty hot, before, and not after my eats. For dessert, mix fresh fruits with sour cream and be sure it’s freshly fridge-cooled. And drop cream on the fruits when you see me taking the last bite a bacon.”
Tommy stops and smiles. “And, of course, Doll, make whatever you like for yourself.”

6. What Tommy Wants from a Woman
Tommy believes in a separation of labor between partners, and leaves it for Kimi to do kitchen and other housework. Kimi does not mind because she assumes that's what a woman does. She worries that Tommy may tire of the sexual pleasure she gives and so she particularly wants to please by her domestic labor because she knows that in Tommy she has a rare catch in his being rich and educated and having a desire to teach and raise her to his level.
Tommy actually is not overly interested in the sex part and has no feeling he is required to be faithful. His rules for the sex part are not to make unwanted pregnancy or pass on disease. What he wants is a woman for whom sex is like rolling off a log, and who, immediately after, is ready to give intelligent opinion and to listen.
Tommy believes: About that which you do not know, you should keep silent. He strongly does not like ignorant opinion or small talk. He wants informed conversation.
Also he likes practicality. He desires a woman, who, in a situation where something inelegant but important needs doing, will do it. And he gets it in Kimi who has lived as fisherman's daughter, as army comfort woman, and as club working girl and satisfied men's desire and knows how to give and get orgasms without trying, as part of life. For her the sex question is: Am I satisfying Mr. Man?
She has a lot to learn socially but also has a large, largely unused brain capacity. Tommy estimates, her IQ 130, and muses, “I can make her slightly brilliant.” And Kimi is evolving her own agenda.

7. Leisure
Kimi gets leisure – she no longer needs to spend time working for shelter and food. The average young woman would spend such leisure overeating, listening to radio (then), gossiping, and doing ‘women's things’ like knitting. But Kimi is no average.
Tommy thinks of Kimi as Eve and himself as the Serpent: he is excited by her potential for intellectual development and desires to bring it out.
A good brain gets knowledge in barren learning environment and teaches self to read and rapidly advances to books that neighborhood friends cannot understand, and is inordinately curious and seeks interesting hobbies, useful talents, and smart friends outside of usual.
Like most spoiled kids Tommy is slow to discard the behaviors of childhood – hobbies, games, reading matter, pals. He brings them along in his life.
With these and other ways & materials, he plans to educate Kimi. And Kimi has her own plan.
