Kimi rushes, just making it back to her room. From her co-workers she knows what to expect. It starts with what they call “the ceremonial” expected by the troop commander. Then 40 to 50 soldiers in line; no wasting time; lower rank 3 minutes, officers 5, and a guard stationed outside door to be sure rules are enforced: one go per soldier only and no sneaking back on line.
Within reach is a big brown bag of condoms, a bottle of pink disinfectant and a box of paper wipes.

Later, Kimi learns the men were suspected of assisting the guerrillas and were executed one after another to give the still alive ones time to become informers.

A knock. The lieutenant enters, closes door, unbuckles sword.
He is nervous. He stands stiffly and from a bulge in front shows no lack of sex desire. Suddenly it clicks in Kimi's mind why he is not moving to top her. Commanding officer! The ceremonial!

Each one of them thanks her and some pass small gifts or money on leaving. One soldier asks her only to caress his part. He promised his wife never to be unfaithful. As Kimi brings him to orgasm he loses military bearing, sinks to his knees and cries “I love you, sister.”
The comforting ends and the train heads north stopping several times before reaching Harbin Harbin Mukden .
Back at her place Kimi drops to bed and sleeps long.
18: Moonlighting
Most of the girls are paying off debts. They get space, food and clothing but the pay is no good. Then Kimi learns that some girls are doing extra work, or moonlighting, as escorts for newsman, diplomat or tourist. A Korean girl, Miss Kang, started the service with the help of friendly sergeants who review travel papers of arriving civilians. Each visitor gets a sexy illustrated paper under his hotel door in the morning, telling of pretty girl guides, jokingly called Miss Kang’s Kids. Soon Kimi is one of them.
