Professor John Edwardes is in his late 70's when he marries Yuko. He puts Yuko through Hunter College for her B.S. degree (Bachelor of Science, awarded after 4-year college course that emphasizes science and foreign languages), they spend several months in Australia getting her English to be Australian-colloquial and then settle down in a Homat in Tokyo not far from Eddie and Ryo. A baby follows. "Homat" is a shortening for home atmosphere. Theirs is a one-bedroom, with large living room off the entrance foyer and a smaller room for Jimmy their 12-year-old in 2000.
   As with Eddie, it is exactly the new-year moment and Edwardes is in bed with Yuko on his left and alarm goes off telling him, the new millennium.
